This series consists of annual reports from the Director of Mines and Water Resources to the Northern Territory Administration as required by the Mining Ordinance. At the commencement of the 1968-1969 financial year, the former Mines Branch and the former Water Resources Branch were combined under the one director into the Mines and Water Resources Branch. Section supervision was provided by an Assistant Director Mining; an Assistant Director Water and a Senior Resident Geologist. The Mines and Water Resources Branch operated until 1970, but no further annual reports have currently been located. The 1968-1969 report contains reports from the resident geologist; mines section; water resources section; statistics; photos and maps of proclaimed goldfields. The Resident Geologist was seconded from the Bureau of Mineral Resources. The Mines Section was responsible for the administration of mining legislation, the erection and operation of facilities for crushing and treating ores, assaying and technical services, drilling to obtain geological information and the inspection of mines. The Water Resources Section was responsible for the assessment, control and development of Northern Territory water resources.
